The Prevent duty - soon to be a statutory duty and already at the heart of Ofsted inspections

All publicly funded organisations including colleges and private FE and training providers will have a statutory duty to comply with the preventing extremism duty and are already being inspected for compliance.

The Education and Training Foundation have been funded by BIS to provide support to the FE sector. We have set up a website, Prevent for Further Education and Training, which provides guidance, sample risk assessments, policies and procedures, links to other website and videos. The website has been designed so that different groups of staff can find their resources easily. It includes materials that can be used with students and guidance for staff and board members on their role in complying with the Prevent duty.

The judgement on preventing extremism is a limiting grade. In the new Ofsted CIF from September 2015, it will be inspected as part of the following grades:

• Leadership and management.
• Quality of teaching, learning and assessment.
• Personal development, behaviour and welfare.
